COUNTRY PORCH
Holiday 2004 Newsletter

Greetings from The Porch!
We bring you tidings of comfort and joy!  The season of blessing is almost upon us.  Soon our town will be blanketed in snow, icicles will glisten from frosty eves and children will go screeching merrily down hills on their sleds.

Here at The Porch we can’t wait to really deck the halls!  Shortly our store will take on an enchantment of its own.  Country lamps will cast their warm glow for table settings in NEW yummy Christmas colors while homey quilts hang from the banister (we have 265 to choose from!).  Customers will inhale the delectable scents of our many cake candles and comment on how charming they look in candle pans filled with fragrant rose hips.

This year, really set the stage for festivity no matter what holiday you celebrate.  Freshen your home with pretty Country Porch curtains, seasonal dishtowels for giving or for the kitchen, NEW Christmas napkin rings and warm and comfy rag rugs.

Make it a wonderful life!  Drop a dollar in the Salvation Army kettle, fill the dreams of a child or share your blessings with a shelter for women or the homeless.  Catch a star and make it yours.

When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.  – Matthew 2:10

Recipes
We made this yummy recipe and all of us fairly licked the platter clean!  For a special gift, bake one for your neighbor wrapped warm in a pretty dishtowel.  From The Taste of Autumn by Gooseberry Patch.

Apple Cinnamon Loaves

4 eggs, beaten
1 c oil
3 c sugar
2 c apple, cored, peeled and grated
3 1/2 c all purpose flour
1 t baking soda
1 T cinnamon
1 t salt
3/4 c water
1 t vanilla

Mix eggs, oil, sugar and apples together, set aside.  Combine flour,
baking soda, cinnamon and salt, mix into apple mixture, alternately
with water.  Add vanilla, blend until smooth.  Pour into 2 greased and floured 9x5 loaf pans, filling 1/2 to 2/3 full. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour and 15 minutes.  Makes 2 loaves.

Candle Club
Dan, our Fed Ex man delivers lots of goodies to the shop, but none more delightful than our newest shipment of cake candles.  Every candle we unwrapped was better than the last . . . every scent yummy and every shade divine.

We love Snickerdoodle, but then there was Cranberry Cake and Banana Nut Bread, and oh yes, what about Pumpkin Spice . . . we just couldn’t decide.  Did you know our cake candles burn 90-92 hours?
