COUNTRY PORCH
January 2006 Newsletter New Beginnings!
Greetings from The Porch!
January, sweet January, the month of new beginnings,
rest and reflection. Up here in the northwest the mountains are shrouded and our world is muffled
with softly falling snow, glowing amber fires and simmering soup pots. We're already breaking our
New Year's resolutions, but take to heart these encouraging words:
Be at war with your vices, at peace with your
neighbors, And let every new year find you a better man.
~ Benjamin Franklin
So, we're beginning at the beginning with a new look
in country quilts while sharing our cherished
Lodge and Log Cabin décor.
We're organizing and stocking our shelves with country style curtains,
table linens,
ceramics, shower curtains,
curtain valances and tiers,
braided rugs and homespun dishtowels.
And now let us welcome the New Year,
Full of things that have never been.
~ Rainier Maria Rilke
Each day has 24 golden hours . . . we invite you to
disconnect for awhile and begin to begin. We have everything you need! Oh, and don't forget to
bookmark so you can find your way back home!
PS - We're ecstatic about our new
kitchen decorating theme patterns!
Look for them to be featured in coming issues, but you can take a peek early!

Oh, after all the celebrating we're ready for simple menus again, like this hardy, tummy warming soup.
Camp Moose Rack
Cream of Broccoli Soup
Serve in Four Bells soup bowls with crusty bread
| 4-5 large potatoes (diced small) |
4 crowns of broccoli (diced fine) |
| 4-5 carrots (shredded) |
1 large can chicken broth |
Put ingredients in a large, heavy bottomed soup pot, season to taste and cook until tender. Chicken broth should just cover vegetables.
Mix together and add to soup pot:
3 cans Cream of Chicken & Mushroom soup
3 Cream Cheese pkgs. (8 oz each)
Heat until warmed (do not boil). For creamier soup, run through food processor or blender. Yummy!
Hint: This recipe is enough to feed an army . . . cut by one-third for a smaller portion.
Bon Appetite!
