Summer's Retreat

Greetings from The Porch!

Bittersweet September still whispers summer's song yet draws the door to welcome fall. We feel it but stall for a little more summer, concerts in the park, boating on the lake, barbecue with friends . . . finishing all those summer projects (what were we thinking?).

Find ecstasy in life; the mere sense of living is joy enough
~ Emily Dickinson

Here at The Country Porch we've taken Ms. Dickinson's wisdom to heart. Just stocking the shelves with all the NEW patterns: fishtail swags, lined point valances, ceramic pottery, country quilts and rustic bedding makes us giddy!

The corn is turning brown
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.

Merry Christmas To All
Artist Teresa Kogut created Merry Christmas To All for Park Designs the Christmas scene of our childhood with Santa and his reindeer flying high through a midnight sky right over our town, his sleigh full of treasures and twinkling stars to light his way.

Make memories with your little ones this season with adorable Merry Christmas To All ceramics complete with houses, Santa and Christmas tree.

The following pages will probably keep you up all night, but take a peek at our entire collection of Christmas Decorating Theme catalog.

Seasonal Quilts
Bannock Quilt

A profusion of country patchwork in hues of browns and sage plaids and checks depict a geometric illusion of falling leaves, of harvest, of the last vestiges of summer.

Take the Bannock quilt to your get-away cabin and add more layers with oodles of luxury and Euro pillow shams, double up with additional Rochelle dust ruffle or top a table with matching throw.

Camp out at Country Quilts or Victorian Heart Quilts for more cabin decorating ideas.

Feathered Star
Prepare to be enchanted. Inspired by the age old tradition of exquisite piecing, our Feather Star quilt by Victorian Heart was created out of hundreds of snippets of fabrics that speak of winters past. Various shades of country red plaids and taupe stripe on a cream background create an illusion of stars.

Cocoon yourself in layers of bedding accessories in luxury sizes, top a table with matching throw or double layer your bed with Rochelle crocheted bed ruffle.

For more nesting material, visit Country Quilts or our Victorian Heart Quilts online catalogs.

Feathered Star Quilt

All over our town we're working up an appetite. Firewood needs to be split and stacked, we're all making a run to our last farm auction and the kids are back in school; hungry as cubs.

Farm Apple Butter
Compliments of Gina Marrone, Winston, GA
Taste of Autumn - Gooseberry Patch
3 lbs Macintosh apples, cored
peeled and sliced
c. brown sugar, packed
1 t. cinnamon
3 c. cider t. allspice
c. honey 1/8 t. ground cloves

Bring apples and cider to a boil in a large saucepan; reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes or until apples are soft. Stir in honey, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice and cloves; mix well. Simmer for an additional 45 minutes to one hour, until apples break down into a very thick sauce. Cool just until warm; puree in batches in a blender. If consistency is too watery, return to saucepan and simmer until thickened. Cover and refrigerate for up to 2 months. Makes about 2 pints.

Bon Appetite!

Candle Club

As the transition of seasons shift, so does the scent of fall. The shop smells of Butterscotch Oatmeal, Cinnamon Spice and Apple Cinnamon now as we begin to welcome amber fires and steaming mugs of soup. Besides being pretty and fragrant, our cake candles burn 92-94 hours.
